16 inch wheel owners?

Just curious on what size tires you have on your 16in wheels. I saw a 225/70 today on the front of an A, it looked good.

I thought all these spoke wheels needed tubes:confused:

The fact that the spokes are welded on a Model A means that they can be run tubeless because there are no holes through the rim (apart from the valve). That said, I'm not foolish enough to run a tyre tubeless on these old rims with no safety bead. While I don't like getting older, I want to do as much of it as I can.

I'm also curious as to what is acceptable to put on 16 inch wheels, in terms of size and safety. Can 225 R70s be mounted safely or shoujld 215 be the largest that should be put on.

I current have old 600 16s from the previous owner and because of their age, I think they should be replaced, just not sure which size is best to use.

Also how do you tell the wheels apart, assuming there are different ones over the years. Mine are wire spoke and I assume they are 1930s vintage ford, but don't know how to tell.

All I want is to see more tire and less wheel well.

To each his own, but if you don't already have the rims I suggest you put a cars with originals and 16 inch side by side. I recently removed the 16 inch wheels from one of my cars because in my opinion they detract from the cars appearance. Wayne

A large range of sizes can be used on the 16" rims, but a wider tire isn't necessarily going to fill in the wheelwell, especially if it has a low aspect ratio. Depending on the look you're after, lowering the chassis/suspension might be the only solution.

700/16 will fill the guard better than any of the modern radials. By the book they are too wide for the 4" rim but in the real world there are hundreds including me running them without trouble.Run a bit smaller on the front.I think with 16's you need to lower the car even if only a little, even if you just rearch the rear spring and reverse roll the front spring. My car has 700 rear 550 front. it's about 3" lower front and back.

Looks good, the pictures help make a decision, I was just afraid that smaller tires in the front would make it look like a hot rod.

I tried a 215/85-16 and ran into clearance problems with the brake rods. I'm going to go back to a bias maybe a 6.50-16.
