Weber Down Draft Carb

Hi; I recently sold my Model A and bought a different one. This car has electronic ignition and a Weber 2 barrel Down Draft Carb on it with a fuel pump. The carb is set up with the 2nd barrel as progressive. When I drive the car it accelerates through the gears fine but on an incline, under a load it stalls out and I have to let off the gas and coast before I can give it gas again. The car does not stop running it just loses power. I did some research and so I have added a fuel regulator as Weber says it should not have more than 3psi of fuel to the carb. This has not changed the situation. I have changed the plugs and the old ones looked grey as if it is running lean. If there is anyone who has worked with these Weber Down Draft carbs I would like to get some advice. Please call me at (515) 491-8321. Mike Youngblood

Welcome to the Barn. As V4F mentioned, float level my be too low or you could have a clogged fuel filter. Originally, there was a screen in the tank, one in the sediment bulb and one on the carb. Not sure what you have now but wanted to give you another item to check. Good luck.

There is a fuel filter on the carb itself and it does tend to get clogged. Seems as though the things that get thru all the other filters you may have do get caught by the carb filter and will plug it up.

It sounds like your engine is running lean. I would disconnect the fuel line at the bottom of the gas tank and drain out the tank and flush it with clean fresh fuel and install a fuel tank filter screen which will keep the junk out of things further down the fuel system. I would also blow out the fuel lines with compressed air and install the new style fuel bowl filter. Both of these items are available at Brattons and other vendors. This solved my problem which was running lean under load.

The Weber WILL run LEAN, without an AIR CLEANER. I had to do some re-jetting, get ahold of a Weber Distributor for help. They USUALLY come as if they're jetted for a VW-RABBIT.

the filter spring is not needed on the filter i use... the filter is held in place by the glass bowl
