Brumfield Head on EBay

Cracked. Read the description and look at the pix. Poster refers to the crack as "usual". To whom ???

FWIW: Few considerations:

Anybody ever see cracked & damaged eggs in a carton of 12?

Honestly, no doubt it is most "usual" to find cracked eggs in a carton?

Is it because they just crack in the carton with no applied stress?

Mr. Brumfield stated his sincere opinion written on the other Model A Forum, just in case one wants to guess at the odds of installing this head with a new gasket with or without experiencing leaks.

No doubt somebody will have it shipped to their address.

Appears at the very least, it could be used to remove & install Model A engines to prevent chain scratches on the non-cracked head.

Hope this helps to decide.

I was just thinking about this over the weekend. I an going to pull my engine later this week and wondered if I should use a "scrap" head I have, rather than my 5.5 Snyder head in the process. (The head is already off anyway, would only put one back on to facilitate pulling the engine.)

Note the item location in the eBay listing.

The seller's definition of "usual" could be correct. Cracks around his house, driveway, garage floor, and everything else are probably not unusual to him either.....especially since the 6.7 "Shake, Rattle, and Roll" event out there. :D

Hey H.L.,
If eggs are cracked...who's going to buy them ?
This is just another one of those 'silly' statements that people make when trying to sell. Instead of ...small crack to fix if want to or use as it.
Unusual people will buy a usual cracked head. How come he did not reuse it himself ?

BTW, this crack situation is exactly like 6:1 Snyder head that I had welded/releveled and it runs good...BUT it cost money to fix, eh ! This one will also.

Remember a very recent thread where someone was negatively commenting on Tod putting support (RIB) under these areas that do crack ? Can't please everyone, comes to mind.

Hey Al,
Ha, that's funny :) ! However, if you ever have the 'fun' of living thru a 6.7 or anything near that, not only will you property look cracked...but your personality might be also.

You can brace them up all you want. If a head casting, ANY head casting, gets hot enough they will all crack someplace. I've seen people run them so low on water and get them so hot that the paint was smoking. Cast iron has its expansion limits.

Lived through the Loma Prieta while on the Bay Bridge, then helped recovery operations on the Cypress Street Elevated section in Oakland, which was no longer elevated. Not one of my better assignments in the Oakland Fire Department.

$310.00 and he knows it cracked.

There is a market for Brumfield heads no matter what condition!

I saw that on E-bay. I can see multiple cracks in the picture myself. If a head gets hot enough to crack like that there can be cracks all over. Read Mr. Brumfield's response below that is on the Ahooga.

Without being magnafluxed .... what a dummy the buyer is.

However, on another note, there's a good chance that I may go back into production. My health is good and all my equipment is in perfect condition.
