Zephyr Gears

Has anyone used the Zephyr Gears that Speedway sells, if so is there any modifications that must be done or are they a direct fit? What other parts are required for this installation?

You might contact Speedway and ask them...

But, you'll probably go to Mac Van Pelt. I bought from him cause of the service factor... Was a good thing, too. I got a cluster that was poorly finished, and he was right there- no problem.

I think that the gears are expensive to tool up for and so, every supplier gets them from the same source.

That would be my opinion-
Karl

As for the 1947, depends on the engine... It's a larger heavier car. The higher gears are sure fun in a Model A-V8... Might be a bit high for starting up steep hills in the 47.

As Karl stated, the previous run of these gears was poorly machined. The run from this past December turned out much better. We include the rear thrust washer with the cluster gear in our sets.

If your 47 had the 4.11 rear gears, you'd probably be fine with the high speed LZ gear set. If you have 3.78 in the rear end, or the 3.54, it would mean more clutch slipping yo get the car moving.

A fellow v8er is offering a 1935 case with Zephyr gears. How would this affect a 35 Ford with a 3.78? It is a much lighter car than a 47. Not that interested in a lot of clutch slipping. Higher speeds in first and second would be nice. Some of you guys must have your 21 studders set up this way. Care to comment for us uninitiated? Thanks
