Zenith carb question

I've probably seen this info somewhere, but I can't find it now -
I'm getting ready to reassemble a Zenith (2?) carb for my pickup
How do I check the venturi to see if I need to replace it ?
I'm rebuilding it because it was low on power and seems to make the engine run hot
(I swapped it out with a Tilly, and it ran much better)
I'd leave the Tilly on it, but I'm determined to try to make this Zenith work.
I've throughly cleaned the carb body, and got a new kit and float from Snyder's - but wondering if the venturi is part of my problems

Not much you can do to a venturi, unless it it broken or cracked.

Probably after you rebuild it, I hope your problem goes away, the Cleaning and new jets should probably do it. Sounds like you are running lean, making it run Hot. probably dirt or plugged Jets, or maye you need to open up your GAV a little while driving the car.
Read the Info. in this link http://modelabasics.com/carb%20basics%202.htm

I did remove the plugs (this time) but didn't really find anything
The venturi 'looks' OK
Not cracked or broken - looks round where it's supposed to be, and flat where it should be too.
That was the disappointing part of the teardown - nothing dirty or plugged up, unless there was 'something' behind the plugs when I removed them
Thanks guys
