Zenith 2 - Is this OK?

I'm in the process of trying to get this carburetor to work better. But I am not very familiar with operation and adjustment yet. The car currently runs rich and wants to stall on deceleration.

The butterfly has this notch cut into it. It looks rather crudely done so I suspect someone added this somewhere along the way. Do I need to fix this?

The car will idle very slowly, so I'm thinking its not hurting anything. Any comments.

Welcome Bruce,

If it was my carb and it idled OK I'd leave the notch alone. For the other symptoms, stalling at stops is often caused by incorrect float level. Rich running could be caused by incorrect jet sizes or a GAV needle that is worn. This site has a good chart to use for troubleshooting:

I have seen the notch before and was told it was a way to improve idle. If your Zenith idles and runs well I would not mess with it. Tom Endy has a great set of articles on the Orange County Website. Study these and you may gain more insight. If you flush your DNS cache you should be able to hit the other sites.

To clear your DNS cache if you use Windows 7, perform the following steps:
Click Start.
Enter cmd in the Start menu search text box.
Right-click Command Prompt and select Run as Administrator.
Run the following command: ipconfig /flushdns. If the command succeeds, the system returns the following message: ?

if it was my carb i would spend the couple dollars on a throttle plate and 2 screws.. if your shaft has play put in an oversize at the same time...my carburetors idle just fine without the notch

In my experience, stalling at stops is caused by an air leak from a loose butterfly shaft. Most suppliers offer a bushing kit to make the shaft tight.

Tried the above fix on my Windows 10 lap top, still no go. Also tried to access modela.org on my desktop Vista OS computer and can't log on there either.
Appreciate your attempt to help.
