Younger crowd in the hobby.

Everyone's car is their own do with it what you like. They are here for us to enjoy. Some just like theirs different. I haven't gotten to do much the past few years because I have a 5 and 6 year old. But I have been able to buy a few card for times to come. And when my 5 year old son is old enough to drive he wants a a v8 that is fender less. And I really hope he still does when he is old enough.

Bart, I still remember going to a local event with some of my Club, and in comes a youngster with a rat rod with no muffler, rebar for a windshield frame, fence gate hinges on the doors, and just so many fun things about it including a Northstar engine, it (and the youngster) was the most popular car there and everyone had a blast. That's what a rat rod should be and how guys should all be.

I'll be 59 in a cupl days, and I can't figure out where the time went! Been into cars since a kid, but mostly muscle and street rods. My 39 is my first original flattie, so I certainly feel like a newbie. I will say that I experienced some of the rudeness you received a while back when I joined astreet rod club. I was about 20 years younger than most in the club. Some people are just a$$holes!

Never been to any of the large gatherings/ shows. I have always enjoyed our hobby/craft from the distance with my family for the same reason, a$$holes. Not ready to subject my daughters to foolishness. Also the reason I left another forum and stoped going to the car shows of unspoken forum. Im not very old but very old in ways and enjoy the peace and laid back and relaxing ways I found here and on the stovbolt forum. Yes I have a passion for Ford and GM work trucks, spent my childhood in both. When I finish the Daddyo: (1942 ford 1.5 ton). I will drive it from MI to at least two gatherings. Give me your prayers on completion time and COST$.:D

35FordTN: First, THANK YOU for bringing your toys to the Hiawassee Meet - I can assure you that the vast majority of people there were MOST appreciative, especially when they discovered your "tender" age!! I was the guy with the Ford Racing shirt who asked questions about your 35 - and expressed MY appreciation for your involvement. (I had the Green '47 Ford PU in Touring Class, seen in my avatar.)

I can attest to anyone who is interested that ALL the "youngsters" (and there were several) involved with those automobiles were dedicated to the task at hand. They were all well-spoken and polite people - the exact kind we NEED to cultivate and encourage. I heard NOT a foul word, or disrespect addressed to anyone.....and I was proud to see them there. I hope that you will continue to participate in YOUR EV8 Club!

Second - As previously stated, there will always be a few who can be counted upon to bring discredit to whatever the event happens to be: I'm glad to hear that you let the comments drift away. Certainly their adverse comments speak more about them, than about you.

Third and finally, if I may be of assistance in any manner, please do NOT hesitate to call upon me: 601-253-2732, or drugcourt@bellsouth.net. I am NOT an expert by any stroke of the imagination......GRIN!

In todays world of computers, PDI's, etc., the emphasis is on "personal". People in general don't join groups today nearly as frequently as they did a generation ago. I can't think of any organization which isn't concerned about attracting new members to keep their vision for whatever alive. The old car hobby is no exception. It seems incumbent on all of us to do all within our power to encourage and nurture "new blood". The practicalities aside, its a real opportunity for some of us a little farther along in life to see things from a different perspective and get some fresh viewpoints. Personally, I enjoy talking with the younger guys who share an interest in old iron. Its also an opportunity to pass along some of what we've learned - sometimes via very expensive "lessons" - and hopefully save them from making the same mistakes. We need all the "young guys" we can get! FWIW

I have never met a veteran of this great hobby who did not want to talk about wheel's/flathead's or FORD's, first impressions guy's it work's both way's;)

As far as the young crowd, I'm tryin to get my nephew's involved my problem is I'm not a video game and you can't log into my intel. It's tough these day's, kid's want stuff with out working for it and want an answer with out struggling to find the answer. If it's not easy, forget it attention span is gone:(

Got to ween them off that "instant answer with out the Knowledge" internet mind set. Thell come around. I was @ Ainslies cruise-in with Walt Dupont last night. Great mix of folk's. Lot's of kid's w/dad and one in particular with his grand-dad who are together restoring a Willey's:D

35fordtn .................
Don't worry about an ocasional "grouch". In fooling with these old cars for fifty years, I, personally, have never seen that attitude. I don't understand their perspective.
MIKE :)

Yeah on this . Don't let it bug ya as these " grouches " are not common . Saw one tearing into his kid in the pits at a QMRA Grands event . This was right in front of the full grandstand . I found it easier to let it go by wondering what makes a person such a jerk . David J

My mother always told me that you will not raise yourself UP by putting others DOWN. I have ran into people that pick something out on my car that is not correct but rather than get upset I show them other things on my car that are not correct & it leaves them with nothing more to say.
Gary.

I just realized one of the best thing about fordbarn.....based on this post ay 50 I am considered young.....:p

Hey, I'm so sorry to have to tell you this.... Your car is correct, but you're not!

It would be great if there was a ford barn gathering once a year. Would be great to meet everyone in one spot.

There have been Fordbarn (now called Barner's Bashes/Gatherings) gatherings held for quite a few years now. There was one in Florida this March and two more planned for this year that I am aware of. The next one is a tour along the coast of Maine scheduled for late August and another in late October as part of the Moonshine Festival in Dawsonville, GA. These gatherings have always been open to anyone who would like to attend. It's surprising to me how few Fordbarn's actually show up for these event's even though they are announced well in advance and well publicized here on this forum. Lot's of 'talkers' saying they will attend but when it comes down to the wire, few actually show up.

As JM has said.:D
I see you are in Houston Texas.
So travel would be some distance.
But you could start some thing in your area.
Get some Ideas together:confused: and post them here and over on the other site.
EMail me @ WPWZ@COMCAST.COM if you do not know the other site I will let you in on where it is.
There are people here and on other site that will help to get your word out,But dont expect them to do "ALL" the work for you.
You know what is in your area that would spark intrest we don't.
So in other words it's time to "MAN UP" or "WOMAN UP" if there are any Girls out htere that want to step up to the plate. < PRESSURE PLATE if you stress easy> :);):)
ENOUGH SAID

I'm 15 and loving my Flathead Six. i will defiantly be in the flathead ford business for a long time!

I'm sorry to hear that this happened. I'm 68 and try to help and encourage all the young people I can. Good luck to you and your friends.

Hey Josh, good for you, I had a 1949 Ford. I think they are cool. That inline flat six is economical, simple and good to learn on.
