Group,
Decided to check the timing on the igniton today as I'm getting more carb backfires than I care for.
I noticed that the car spark lever wouldn't go all the way up (retard) or that the full advance from the lever down didn't press aganst the distributor slot.
I loosen the steering column and turned it about 1/4 inch. Now the spark control takes full advange of the slot space in the distributor for retard and advance.
Retimed and test drove....no carb backfire (ran more advance) and had more power.
Check that the spark control takes advantage of the full amount possible !!
As an aside, The slot dimension from my new distributor is different from the one that came on the car. Is there a drawing that shows the correct slot dimension ?
