Group,
When I bought my "new" ford, I was cautioned that it will leak some by the previous owner. My "some" oil leak turned out to be a mess about the size of a small frizbee.
Currently, it's the size of a golf ball and getting smaller. I now know why...
When I got my car, the first thing that I did was change the oil and grease the car. I changed the oil on my driveway that has a slight incline...
When I added oil, I found that after 4 quarts, it was about 1/4 inch over the F mark. I thought, so what...should be O.K. Later, I realized that the incline on the driveway kept some oil in the pan and hence, caused the added 4 quarts to be too much.
Now, after a couple of months have gone by, the oil is almost at the top of the F on the dipstick, and the leaks are way down to a golf ball size.
Looks like the best method is to just but in oil to the F mark !
I know now that this isn't a surprise to some...but to us "new" owners its nice to have a solution to a bad oil leak now.
