Looking for someone that can replace a Rear Main Seal on my 312 .I live in Crestwood Il 60445 . Just South of Chicago and 15 miles from Indiana border .

More satisfaction doing it yourself, unless you are not mechanically inclined. Just sayin......................

Cant help but I cant tell you that it can be done without engine removal, also don't be too disappointed if it still leaks...

If you google "y block rear main seal", you'll find some good info. I don't remember all the particulars, but Best Gaskets supposedly produced some "Orange" 312 seals that failed rapidly, and may still be in inventory. It's been replaced by a "black" one.

If you do some research, and provide the info to the mechanic, any good "old fashioned wrench" should be able to help you out. It has been done with the engine in the car. I wouldn't try it, but I know guys out here I would trust. Just need a lot of "feel" and experience.

You might also join and post the question over at Y blocks forever, there's a number of Midwest guys who might have a name.

It can be done in the car. They make a tool called a " Sneaky Pete " for replacing the rope type seal that was used originally. There may be a neoprene replacement seal available now.
I worked at a Ford dealer in the 60s and we did a lot of them.

You need two people to do it with the engine still in the car , one has to turn the crank over slowly to feed the seal out and new one back in, you can try the sneaky Pete but I found just a plain old screw with a wire wrapped around it works well, you can still use the screwdriver to screw it into the old seal and pull as your mate turns the crank..
