Have a chance to pick up a 36 Y chassis trans for cheap. Was thinking this could be a backup to the one in the car. Does anyone know if this will drop in? Would obviously have to use my bell housing since the y chassis is right hand drive. Any chance this would have synchros in it? Thanks, Chris

For those that don't know, the Y chassis was an export version of the A. Looks to be vary similar but I don't really know how many parts are interchangeable? Was very popular in the UK. Only had a 1 liter 8 hp motor:(

Looks like at least the parking brake handle doesn't mount the same.

I don't think that trans will be any good for you as the Model Y was not an export version of the A but a scaled down version, ie smaller version of the A everything is smaller, The only thing that I know of that fits a Model A are the inside window winder handles are the same as a Model A fordor

That chassis looks interesting in the photo thats a Ford Showroom display chassis cutaway to show various parts . The model A Ford club of Britain has a Model B chassis like that .
Good Luck John C

The Y Model Fords were an entirely different car, with little to none interchangeability. The only exception I know is the dist. will fit the A head.

The Model Y was designed at Detroit in late 1931 & prototypes were then sent to England for production. It was Fords answer to the popular small English cars like Morris & Austin which incurred less British HP tax & used less fuel than the larger Ford which did not sell well in UK or Europe then.
The US Model 40 was actually a 'scaled up' Model Y design by Gregorie & Edsel Ford.
