Y-Block thermostat

If a gasket is suspect, when the heads come off, don't rip off the gaskets until they are inspected on which ever surface they stick to. When a gasket fails, it will show where the failure is.
 
To confirm the compression leak into the cooling system get your local garage to do a TK test which confirms CO2 gases in the cooling system...depending on how bad the leak might be you could also check the spark plugs as the faulty cinders spark plug would be very clean....does the engine miss fire on gold start up??
