has anybody put the 1.78" or 1.92" intake valves

in the heads that have 1.64" intake valves from the factory?

i have C1TE heads with 1.64", but i'll probably leave the

heads alone.

how about has anybody put the 1.92" intakes in heads

that came with 1.78" stock?

have a nice day!

No, but I got a set of 292 heads here that somebody reamed out the valve guide holes in the heads for larger valve guide bushing stock. Apparently, the larger stock what what they had on hand and used it instead of getting the proper size valve guide stock. It was probably done at a gas station in the '60's. We believe that the bushings they used were standard allis-Chalmers deisel engine valve guides.
Pretty much makes those heads worthless unless you can get more of the oversize bushing stock.

ole don

the 'early' Windsor 1.85" is bigger than the

y block 1.78", so i guess the 1.78's can

be put in no problem.

so, anybody put 1.92" y block intakes in

C1TE heads?

it looks like in McMaster's pic's there's plenty

of room left between intake and exhaust valves.

ole don

your answer took a lot of rereading.

ok, the ECZ-G heads came with 1.92 intakes and

you put in 1.94's.

on the exhaust side you replaced 1.51's with 1.6's.

well, ECZ-G's came with 1.92's so i still need to

know if 1.92's will fit in C1TE heads.

I think what McTim means is this, a street engine doesn't need that much valve. The C1TE head port may not support the big valve. If you go racing, you need a G, a 113, or the aluminum head. I have seen the aluminum head in action. They are unbeatable. Porting on a G can make a world of difference if done right. The whole package must work together.

Because of the angle of the spark plug, 1.92 will probably hit the plug on C1TE heads. 1.84 is about the biggest you can safely put in these heads. Might use a shorter plug and be safe, but I wouldn't risk it.

What is wrong with the guides now?
Sounds like you have a standard cylinder repair done with .502" guides which are done in most heads.Proper guides for repair are that od size. That is not bushing stock they are every day replacement guides for that repair.

Are the C1TE spark plug bores angled differently than other Y heads?

i haven't gotten that far.

my C1TE heads have a big 'support' for them cast in,

'intruding' into the combustion chamber.

i did figure this out, if you grind it out, there's

nothing for the plug to thread into.

i am thinking ' what's the same for all heads and what ain't?'

i can have machine shop sonic test

around all the valve seats and

see how much material there is.

i think way back guys were putting

1.92's in there all the time but

info got lost over the years.

This is probably going to be a bit controversial. But why even mess around with the thought of 1.92 in. intakes in the C1TE heads? If it is a SERIOUS racing endeavor, buy some aluminum heads. If semi serious get some G heads. If not very serious, the 1.92s are overkill for street engines, unless you like rpms frequently above 5500.

Once I did a comparison of square inches of intake valve per cubic inch engine dispacement for original engines, Ford, Chevy, etc. The 1.92 inch in a 292 was WAY higher than anything compared to. Dont remember if the 351C was included. Anyway, 1.78 or 1.84 dimensions for the intake valves are completely adequate.

noswal

that's a good point about larger intake hitting spark plug!

i'll take another look at the heads.

i figured Tim used Cleveland valves because

they're more available and cheaper.

i'll still probably leave these heads alone though,

just freshen them up.

there's a ton of stuff to do just doing that.

check valve length for stretch, check guides, etc.

clean C1TE heads don't grow on trees anymore.:)

have a nice day!

Actually they do. I throw away a set at least everyother year. There isnt anyone who wants them. In fact I think there are a couple out there now getting closer to China.

i'll post pic of combustion chamber side of head

here in a little bit.

i do see the spark plug is closer to the intake valve

than the exhaust valve.

have a nice day!

Take a look at where the 1.85 intake valve is in relation to the spark plug "boss". Anything bigger
gets even deeper into the boss and hits with any kind of lift.
