Y-block fuel pump

I'm wondering if anyone can help me settle on a fuel pump for my '56 Country Squire--an occasional driver in original condition (42K miles on its 292). Right now it has its original (two rebuilds that I know of) dual-action pump; I really don't need the vacuum section since in 25 years I've never turned on the wipers--I've never taken it out in the rain or driven it when rain was even remotely in the forecast. Anyway, I went looking for a single-action pump to carry as a spare, and there it becomes a minefield of misinformation, at least as far as the parts houses go, the standard ones as well as the vintage-parts suppliers, none making much sense as to applications, or having any reliable pictures to go by. Most offer the Airtex 6523, with the "can" filter that screws on to the bottom; problem is, this appears to be too long to fit without removing the splash shield under it. Other suggestions are the Airtex 3450, which is a simple design with no filter, which I'd prefer. Another is the 3150. (None seem to have the inlet/outlet in exactly the same place.) Thanks very much.

The parts man who sold me the fuel pump on my 55 said its in the book as for a 292 in a 1960 Ford pick up. Or, a 427 FE motor. Or anything in between. My dual action leaked too, this one has been on it for years with no problem. I use Rainex on the glass and I don't care if it rains.

If you do go with a single action pump, don't forget to plug the un-used vacuum lines.
Mac's seems to have pretty good photos of their parts.

A friend of mine is using the 3450 in his Tbird. He had to turn the lower part to align it with the stock TBird lines.

I purchased the Carter version for use on my Bird, but haven't got around to changing it.
