Yes They are different. I have both a 5w coupe and cabriolet. The cabriolet ones I have are definetly original henry's and they have no p/n on them. The reason they are different is because the entire cabriolet rear section is aprox 2 inches lower than the 5w and roadster. The same deck/rumble lid is used on the cabriolet, but because the whole rear section is lower, the rumble lid sits lower and therefore describes a different arc as it rotates to the open position. If you compare the back panel (below the rumble lid) you can readily see the difference. The cabriolet panel is about 2 inches shorter (8 inches)than 5w/roadster panel (10 inches). The cabriolet rumble lid brackets (A shaped) are shorter and also the L shaped inside mounting brackets where they pivot are shorter than 5w/roadster brackets. Because everything is lower on the cabriolet (relative to the floor) the cabriolet rumble lid stop brackets that mount to the floor are also shaped dirrerently and are correspondingly shorter. The Murray bodied 3w deck /rumble lid is wider and totally different than the 5w/roadster/cabriolet lid and the rumble lid brackets are 3w only and will not fit any other body style. Interestingly enough I have emailed and had phone conversations to one well known aftermarket supplier of these rumble bracket kits and informed them that advertising these as 5w/roadster/cabriolet kits will not work on cabriolets, and they have said they will correct their ads. Sadly, they still to this day have not changed their ads. To the best of my knowledge there is no one reproing the cabriolet CORRECT brackets. The aftermarket 5w/roadster arms are cast iron and so shortening them to work on a cabriolet would be extremely difficult. Hope this clears up some questions in this regard. The cabriolet body was made by briggs and although it is similar in apperance to a 5w coupe & roadster, nearly every body panel is different. It being lower gives it a swoopier sportier appearance in my opinion and is my favorite, Pete the true blue 32 man

newc and true blue --- as true blue said the 3w is entirely different. the cabriolet rumble brackets are similar to the 5w and roadster but not the same . also the 5w coupe and roadster rumble brackets are different again and not interchangeable on both body and lid . the decklid sits 1/2" lower on the roadster compared to the 5w. the panel below the decklid on the 5w is 10" and roadster is 9 1/2". in a nutshell the 5w, roadster and cabriolet all share the same deck lid. all 3 bodys have different length rumble brackets. all 3 bodys have different height panels below decklid. california metal shaping [which is out of business] used to reproduce all 3 panels. have noticed a lot of dealers claiming they are the same, they have been informed and are still selling a one size fits all panel. 2 yrs ago i asked steves auto restorations about their $600 32 rear quarter panel end patches which they claims fit both 5w and roadster. i explained they were entirely different in cross section and they cannot be used without serious modification. i asked him what they fit, coupe or roadster and he couldn`t tell me and didn`t know there was a difference or which body style they fit. he said he would look into it and correct the ads. to my knowledge he still is advertising them as being the same.

Hi all; Ford Barn to the rescue again; I am missing only my rumble hinges and brackets for the cabriolet, so I will put on a trunk style lid for now. The knowledge will help me find the right parts later. Thanks again all. Newc in Oregon

I just recently discovered 32 roadster & 5W brackets are different; I notice lots of folks advertize them to be the same. Like someone has said on here, buyer beware, and educate yourself, read the Ford Barn.

I have a few pairs of rumble hinges that are unidentified. Could someone post some dimensions off the three types?

If I am following the post the:

5W is the tallest, 10" back panel
then Roadster, 9 1/2" back panel
then Cab at 8" back panel

could someone add the height of the hinge for each style?

miles ---if you can find a 32 body parts catalogue. should be available in repro. it has all the part no`s for all three bodys hinges and brackets. these numbers are usually stamped in the lid hinges. the body brackets are not usually stamped. the body brackets should fit perfectly if they are the correct ones for that bodystyle and the body mounting hole connections and braces haven`t been modified.---barry

The 32 Cabriolet bracket #s are B-70526 RH & B-70527 LH. The #s may or may not be stamped into the hinge. I have a pr. of 3W, pr.of roadster hinges(confirmed). I also have a pr. of unidentified ones, with no discernible markings. They measure ~7 7/8" from bottom of "rocker", end that bolts to trunk lid, to outside edge of end that has hole in it for hinge pin.

The 48- 0nes are 35's and will fit 36 also. There is a pair of brackets on EPAY right now.Check.to see if they will work for you.

Only the roadster; the part numbers for the standard (5-w) coupe and sport coupe hinges are B-47430/1.

Note that in addition to four different hinges attached to the rumble lid, the bracket where those hinges attach, located on the vertical strainers inside the quarter panels, also are different in each instance (B-41543/4, B-47532/3, B-70532/3, B-526890). B-41544 is shown in the photo below.
