just bought a 30-1 roadster today, and It has no w/s or stanchions. need nearly everything. thanks, jim.

Is it a Standard roadster or a DeLuxe roadster. The stanchions and windshield are different. Your top irons also differ Standard or DeLuxe. All items must be either all for Standard or all for DeLuxe.

If you do not know the difference between a Standard roadster and a DeLuxe roadster the parts you seek and the top are the principal determining factors. Go to some car shows and look at roadsters. Find out if a Model A Club is near you and meet some "A" folks. Take your time and decide if you wish your roadster to be a Standard, or a DeLuxe. You cannot mix the stanchions, windshield or top as they do not interchange. Take a bit of time to decide which way to go. Most folks restore a roadster as a DeLuxe as it is a bit fancier in appearance. This has made Standard roadsters a scarcity and un usual at shows these days.

I realize that the w/s is wider on the delux, so the stanchions must be different also. I have the top bows so I guess that is where I would start. What is the dimension of the post at the top? thanks, jim.

The windshield is not wider on the Deluxe, it is shorter by about an inch. The top bows on the Deluxe are mostly flat iron straps with a wood header across the windshield and varnished wood on the main strap. The standard roadster has socket type bows very similar to the model T or the 28-9 roadster. The standard stanchion is 14 inches high where the deluxe is 14 inches high. The Deluxe roadster had leather seats (brown pleated) where the standard had artificial leather (black no pleats). Hope this helps.

I have the brown pleated seats. I saw in a magazine that the deluxe w/s was about 1/2 wider. You are saying both stanchions are 14''? thanks, jim.. Friend came over and says its a 31,because of the indention in the firewall for the fuel spigot. Is this right?

The indented firewall in the area of the fuel valve means it is a mid to late 1931. The Standard Roadster and the DeLuxe roadster windshields are the same width. The Standard one is taller than a DeLuxe hence the stanchions are also taller. The Standard stanchions can be identified from the DeLuxe without measuring as the protrusion at the top goes straight up and on the DeLuxe it is angled a bit. Standard windshield 15 1/4 height at end, DeLuxe 13 1/2.
