Wrong shape intake gasket on 1940 coupe?

I’m having a difficult time figuring out why certain slingshot adapters wouldn’t match the shape of my intake. Then I came across these gaskets on Bob Drake. According to these pictures, my 1940 Ford is requiring the shape intake gasket, which is supposed to be for 1932 to 38 vehicles. Anyone have any insight? Thanks in advance!

Have you pulled that vacuum fitting adapter plate off to
see the shape of your intake manifold?

Thank you! I didn’t realize that is a separate part. I’m new to this. What’s the best way to get that off of there without breaking anything? It’s on really tight.

Thanks so much! I just took a small screwdriver and was able to work my way around, tapping it in gently with a hammer and was able to get it off of their cleanly without any problem. Now it looks like it should. You just made my night!

The vacuum adapter looks like a Columbia Two Speed vacuum source. If your car has a Columbia You will need the plate. If not, remove it since without removing the open brass fitting will have to be plugged closed.

The gaskets match the base of the original carburetor. The "32-38" gasket really should be a "34 to partial 38" gasket, and the shape matches the gasket surface on the bottom of a Stromberg two barrel used from the factory on those year V8s. The gasket with the V shaped edge matches the shape of the bottom of a Chandler-Groves / Holley / Ford "94" carburetor.
