I have a 1930 Briggs Town sedan, and needed to have my dash, window frames and garnish moldings, finished with woodgrain. I found a company that does hygroscopic transfer printing. Essentially, a woodgrain plastic sheet is placed in a tank of liquid. The part is then lowered into the liquid, and the film wraps the part. Then the part is finished with 2) coats of clear. It was cost effective, and a fabulous finished part.
