Wood Question for 30 Coupe

Hi Everyone. Kinda new to the board so have newbie question.
Side window wood is old but still useable. Looked painted.
Is it acceptable to paint all my wood for protection? After all it will not
be visible.

Have ordered a top wood kit and plan to paint that also.

You might look into a preservative which soaks in, while leaving the wood open to breath. I'm not an expert but it seems painted wood rots almost as fast as raw wood...paint holds in moisture and wood needs to vent, expand & contract.
There's a ton of choices in stains & oils when you talk to the wood experts.

Like you I've also considered reusing most of my original 31 body wood...at least I know it fits. The roof bows are rotted, but the door pillars and wood around windows appear very sound.
When I first got my Model A the interior was gutted...gone...just a the seat springs, but that old thing had a wonderfull aroma when you sat inside.
The closest I can come to that smell is going inside certain "antique furniture stores" which are using linseed oil on their work. I love that smell....it reminds me of my old car before I took it all apart so that's what I plan to use on both the old wood and whatever new pieces are needed.
Has anybody here used Linseed oil? (inside a car)
Boiled or raw?
Did it stink you out?
Would you do it again?
Inquiring minds....

From my woodworking experience I know that linseed oil leaves a residual odor. The people that use it extensively use this formula:
Mix Linseed Oil and paint thinner 1 to 1 or 2 parts oil, 1 part thinner.
Apply 1 coat a day for a week, 1 coat a week for a month, 1 coat a month for a year.
I may try that but only 2-3 coats.

Ha ha , I'll give you a bargain on the upholstery if you fancy it ;)
I had no idea linseed oil carried such a labour intensive application program...no wonder it's rarely used.
For inside the cab I'm thinking you'd use far less than the dosage recommended as the smell would be overpowering.

Here's an old picture of it when I worked at a body shop and first brought it home from Longveiw Wa.
