Wood Body Mount Block Question

Hello,

I have two wood body mount blocks that seem similar in terms of width & height and hole size/placement but different in length. See the pictures below.

The shorter one is shown as included in the 28-31 Coupe, Sports Coupe, Roadster & Phaeton kits on the Mike Model "A" Fordable website.

The longer one is shown as included in the 30-31 Tudor kit on the Mike Model "A" Fordable website.

Is the long block the same block for applications and someone just shortened the block for some reason, or is the long block Tudor specific.

Thanks in advance for your guidance.

Hello, the rear most block was increased in length for more support on rear most of body sub frame, the hight remained the same. It is mounted as before with the rubber pads at rear frame cross over . Perhaps someone has the service bulletin on this .

Hello GDMN852,

Thanks for the reply. I am wondering why is making a shorter version of the longer version is better? The amount of wood is so minor. It is a very small part.

Thanks Ken

Hello again, I know on roadster and coupe bodies, maybe Tudor also, the increased the length of rear blocks as they found the body sub frame was cracking in some cases with shorter blocks. The Fordor and Cabriolet and some later body styles had wood frames and didn’t use the wood blocks in a steel sub body frame.I have a 31 roadster and it uses the longer wood blocks, perhaps there is interference with body brackets on other steel sub frames. Most of my experience has been with coupes and roadsters .

The longer body block is intended for cars that have a rumble seat. Having people seated in the rumble seat adds weight beyond the end of the frame.

Thanks for all the replies

Dave in MD, the explanation of the longer block makes complete sense. Thanks for sharing your knowledge

Randy in CA thanks for sharing the diagram that explains the evolution of the block and what year it was used for.
