Wishbone cap color

I beadblasted the parts for the radius wishbone ball retainer cups. Should they be painted black or left unpainted. It seems like they should be painted to prevent rusting.

Hint, It could be painted to 'prevent rusting'..... but you'll have to try harder to find the correct finish.

Thanks, Jim, JayJay and JW. It appears the sockets and cap are unfinished. Maybe I will spray the socket and cup with clear finish to stop rusting for a while.

Clear probably depends on which type. I'm working on a car with all unfinished hardware now yellow after 30 years. I'm refinishing all in 'Cast Blast' gray over a thin coat of Sem Gray self tech primer.

'your mileage may vary'

If it was me I would paint it a nice semi gloss black and not worry about it nobody's gonna crawl underneath there and verify it unless you're building a high points restoration who cares!!!

Paint is not necessary to stop rusting of the cap. Oil leakage will provide lots of anti-rust protection, so leave it bare.

Ok Boys, ....you two are assuming a lot into this. First off, Mr. Nelson, myself and quite a few others here generally try to authentically restore. Painting it black does not fit within those guidelines. :D Additionally, assuming a sufficient quantity of oil from the Rear Main will prevent rusting is a stretch at best. ;) It should be worth noting that Mr. Nelson does have his vehicles judged, so Yes, -there will likely be several crawling underneath his vehicle. :o
