Wiring

About fried the wiring to the alternator today when I hooked my headlights back up!! Was I getting a short through the metal conduit by having one of the 3 metal bullets maybe touching the conduit? I was using the plastic insulator. Worked fine before I had to take it apart to work on the radiator?
Unhooked the lights and all was back to normal? Or were the bullets touching? I'm not much of a wiring guy!

Remove the ground cable from the battery before you start working on the wiring. That way if the connectors touch ground no sparks. If your light switch is working, and you do not have it in a on position, there should be no power to the light wires, and there should be no sparks, however... It is best to remove the ground off from the battery 1st just to be safe.

Larry, If you are using repro headlight connector parts, you may consider hard-wiring the lights using modern connectors tucked inside the shells for safety and reliability.

mass a man is right, if you can't find good originals the use separate modern connectors for each.
