Is there a place to find the wiring diagram for a 40 P/U I bought various kits in the braided cloth but I can,t seem to find a complete diagram.

Look in the owners manual ---the 40 manual I just found the centerfold is the lubrication chart, the next page is the wiring diagram --ant has much more detail than you would think with details on backside of cluster

Keep in mind as you run the wires these things were put together by fast moving assembly line workers...the wiring looms should almost drop into place and the plug-ins become almost intuitive.

CM thanks do you think the deluxe and P/u would be the same color codes?

I'm not CM, but yes...Ford used the same color codes for decades to standardize manufacturing and it also helped for ease of diagnosis in the field.
Deluxe may have additional wires not included in the pickup.
My 2006 F150 still has a white wire with red stripe for the oil pressure sending unit, as did my 66 Mustang, 40 yrs later.

My favorite part of that wiring diagram is the "Traffic Beam" and "Country Beam" designation for what we normally now refer to as "hi and low" beams.
