Wires to distributor get hot

I installed the Pertronix Ignitor module from FS Ignitions last year and have had nothing but trouble. Burns up coils.

Just installed a new coil and noticed something very odd - the three wires going to the distributor get hot! Compared to the windings in the coil these are huge wires so no wonder the coils are failing. What is causing the heat? I have tried 3 ohm and 1.5 ohm coils.

I run an alternator, still 6VDC positive ground, so I know there is some AC component to my voltage. FSI installed three diodes on the hot wire, and I am wondering if that 700ohms resistance is contributing to the problem...
