Wireless Distributor Plare?

I recently bought "wireless" Distributor parts for a distributor I am restoring to use on a car that will be used for touring. When everything arrived, I got to looking at the stuff and did not like the looks of it. It appeared to me that it may be prone to failure. This thread confirms my suspension. I am going back to the "Old Style" stuff with a wire. I would just as soon not have to be on the side of the road changing the distributor.

I do have some very finely stranded wire that GM Used on their Distributors. It is made to be constantly flexing because of their vacuum Advance system and movable point plate. I am thinking of using this stuff as it is made to flex and should not be as prone to failing.

I also have some test lead wire that I got at the electronics store. It is also very finely stranded 16 ga wire with a tough rubber covering that is made to be constantly flexing. I would think this would be a lot better then regular automotive wire that does not have very many strands.

Opinions????

Thanks, Chris

Mine was made from wire salvaged from a GM dist ---40 years ago, still good.

I am going to S##T CAN the "wireless" stuff I bought and go with the original design and use the GM Distributor wire. It should last as long as I need it to. I am now 73 and another 40 years would make me 113. If I am still around, I may not be up to driving my Model A.

Thanks,

Chris

In a previous thread, someone suggested replacing the stock pigtail with wire from a Hobby shop. 14 ga. tin coated copper, multistrand with a silicone sheath. It works well and is very flexible.
