Wire loom for the crab distributor cap

I want to put the crab distributor on my '36 and use the crab cap. What is the recommended wire loom to use for this conversion? Anyone have pics of what was used in '42? Thanks, Ed

I think all the plug wire looms from '42 to '48 were the same; I had a crab cap on our '47 and used the stock wire looms without the rubber boots.

The 42 crab cap had different wire looms. If you face the crab cap the 2,1,5,4 wires comes off the left. The 7,3,6,8, wires come off the right. That means that #3 and #5 have to cross over to get to their plug. The 42 looms have 2 openings the outside and one at the back end and one on the inside to allow the 5 and 3 to cross over the intake manifold. What most folks do that change to the crab cab is to make the crossover above the dizzy and feed into 46-48 looms. I will try the next post to display pics. John

Thanks guys. Exactly the information I was looking for. Thanks John for the pic of the '42 looms. That's the first picture I have seen of those. Thanks again. Ed

Ed, you didn't say what year engine is in the old 36, but if its a water pump in head job, ie original 36, you'll need to run the 36 style looms. The later ones won't fit around those early heads. Brian
