wiper arm install

Should be a simple install but I am lost on how to fasten the arm to the wiper motor. I have the motor with the hole in the shaft and the arm with the 90-degree bend on the end. I can't see how there can be any tension on the arm with the spring where it is. See pictures.

Put the hooked end through the hole in the shaft. Lift up the teardrop outer piece, compressing the spring, and hook the top of said teardrop piece over the shaft so it fits into the groove on shaft. When installed the hooked end and spring are all enclosed within the teardrop, not as in your photos...
