winter storage

With this new crapy gas is it best to just drain the fuel system completely or should I get some kind of stablizer. I have tried my best not to run ethanol based fuel in her but who really knows what this gas is. I just wondering what everyone does to put this old iron to sleep for the winter.

Get yourself to your local Yamaha dealer (boats or motorcycles) and purchase some Yama-Lube Fuel Stablizer. This is a vast improvement over Sta-bil. They have formulated it for the ever changing gas.
Then, fill your tank as full as it can be to prevent moisture.
Dont want to sound like a commercial, but have used this in all my Fords for over 3 years, and in the spring, they all start first crack, and tailpipe doesnt smell like old socks.

I've used stabil for storage for all my engines; and don't drain the gas. Had a leaking carburetor on my 22 yr old harley, and when i disassembled it, it was whistle-clean inside....like new. No problems starting in the Spring

I use stabil too. Actually only sits a few months, and I cheat and get it out on nice days, so I could probably get away with nothing.

The 46 is nice because I can drain the gas. Can't drain the Harley... so I ride it!

I use Stabil also it has worked for me, I also have a standby generator, it set for 4 years with Stabil & still started I decided to drain it after all those years & it still looked good. I'm sure there are other products that work just as well or maybe better?
Gary.

Ive used nothing for 30 years without a gas problem. The November gas was just as good in April. Four cars.

Thanks everyone. We have a number of cars and trucks we put into storage for the winter now and was reading about summer gas vs winter gas and the butane additive. The last thing I need is more problems to deal with if it ccan be avoided.

Today is sunny and cold but got the 47 out and ran around town to see if heater was working I restored. Nice and hot . I swear this motor runs better in 30 degree weather

Sorry guys but here in san Diego we will be blazing up the freeway all winter, with the rumble of the flathead clear and distinct!.. Couldn't resist

Most small engine repair folks have been recommending Star tron as an additive ..Eight ounces treats 48 gallons of gas. I am giving it a try and saying that it is cheap insurance

Paul2748, I am glad to see somebody experiences the same as me. I don't do nutton and the old girl takes off every spring just fine. I do let it turn over for about 15-20 seconds to let the oil start doing it's thing then flip the switch and let her go.

I've had good luck with Marvel Mystery Oil (MMO). I add the recommended dose to the fuel tank plus a little extra. I also remove the air cleaner and pour a heavy dose into the carb throat nearly killing the engine, to coat the internals. As a precaution, I also disconnect the battery (for long term storage I remove the battery). I've used this practice for nearly twenty years with good results. Good luck.

Do you need to run the car after you put the additive in? Seems like you would want to get it up into the fuel pump and carb?

There are so many different ideas on this, very intresting seems like any of the options will probably be fine I guess. I think Jim has a point that you would want the protected fuel up into the carb and bowl.

Stabil has a Marine grade (Blue) that seems to do a better job than the normal Red grade.
Use something or if your gas has Ethanol or don't store it for more than a month or so.
The stuff turns to white powder or leaves a yellow film that can be fatal to a carb or pump.
