Well, took the 29 CCPU into town to get registered today. Had a surprise when I got there. Walked out of the courthouse and saw the exhaust pipe on the ground, disconnected from the manifold!
I managed to get it hooked back up, but I will need the entire clamp, donut, gaskets and whatever from Mike's to fix it properly.
Also, the water pump leaks a bit, slings grease from the front, but that might be because I put too much in the bearing, the front end is kinda sloppy with a lot of slop in the steering, the throttle sticks sometimes, and a couple of other things.
All part of the fun of an 85 year old vehicle, I guess!:D

A few drops of oil may stop that throttle from sticking. Other than that I think a new water pump is a right of passage when adopting a new A.:)

The exhaust should only need a clamp, as it doesn't use gaskets or donuts at the pipe connection.

You gotta keep any eye out for those Model A exhaust clamp thieves.:D

Didn't it drag on the ground while driving?

I think it came loose just before I got to the courthouse. Also, it seemed to be just off the ground on the front end...

Well, we just checked. The pack nut on the water pump is toast.:(
Looks like time for a rebuild kit...
And a new exhaust clamp.
Still trying to figure out which steering box I have, since there is a LOT of play in the box itself. The sector shaft??
And, a little slop in the kingpins, but not a whole lot.
It looks like a 2 tooth box. Any rebuild kit for them, or just replace it?

Get a Bratton's catalog. There are lots of exploded views of the different assemblies of the Model A. Also get Les Andrews book.

I have Les Pearson's book, and found the exploded PDF at Snyder's. I might try to adjust what I can, and If it can't be saved then I'll get the rebuilt box with the needle bearings on the sector box.

How about posting a picture of your steering box so we can
tell which one you have. Bushing are the way to go on the sector shaft.

Here's one...

Put some oil in the " cups" on the accelerator shaft and it will stop sticking. I know that not the name for it it but I can't think of the right one now. The piece at the back of the motor

I know the places you mean! Thanks.:)

Another one.
Yup, I figured how to do it from my album.

Looks like a two tooth to me but I am just a newbie with A's. If it is a two tooth, you can adjust it. How come you don't carry bailing wire in your rig so you could tie up your exhaust pipe when it falls off? (Just an old farmer fix but a good one)

Baling wire is old fashioned...I used a coat hanger! (Really!):D
Going to try to do the adjustments on the steering box as shown in Les Pearson's book.

lol reason why i carry about 25 feet of wire in my modern truck... if ti falls off let it cool then tie it up...wouldnt be the first time its run open header haha.

Nice lookin truck tho!

I plan to hopefully get the front and rear axles under the frame this winter, rebuilding worm drive and dual high now.

Well, I am on the list to get a Lentville Huckster conversion done in the spring, so I will have a lot of cab and bed parts to sell off later...

Hi Fred, Is that a hose running from your oil fill to evacuate crank case fumes?
I was thinking about doing that to keep the blow by fumes out of my sport coupe.

If you can find one, these work great!

It looks like a two tooth box. Follow the instructions in the SERVICE BULLETIN for
adjusting the steering box, you may have to repeat the adjustments several times.

I got one of those things from a swap meet and tried it. The cap on the filler tube made a rattle when the engine was running so I took it back off. Just my experience with one.
