Windshield weather stripping removal

The rubber weather stripping that goes around the windshield frame on my 28 Tudor is brittle, hard, and cracks.

I have a new roll of weather stripping to install, but am having problems removing the old brittle weather stripping and have gotten instructions from here on how to replace it.

What is the best way to remove the brittle weather stripping? Do I need to soak it in any type of solution?

Can I do it with the windshield in place or should I remove the windshield and frame?

Wife and I are going on a cruize for the afternoon in a few minutes, much appreciated in advance.

Best to remove the windshield UNLESS you can get in their good. I always use a putty knife and have no problems at all. Good Luck

mine was the same very brittle and hard. I don't think I could have
managed with out removing windshield .

I used a heat gun which softened the old weather stripping. you probably
will do it in pieces as I did.

I cleaned and painted groove after removing the old stuff.

just replaced mine. Used WD40 sprayed into weather strip groove and waited a few minutes while it soaked into the groove. It helped soften the rubber and lubricated the groove so the old one could slide out easily. Also agree it is easier to do with the windshield out of the car...............Glen

Thank you all for your responses.

Will remove the windshield frame and try WD-40, heat gun, and putty knife, not necessarily in that order.

I will spray a little paint in the groove, let it dry. For installation lubricant, I will use a clear gel, that is for applying on electrical wiring, prior to pulling through conduit.

It is water soluble, very slick, cleans up nice and evaporates in about 24 hours. Won't make a mess like the oil-based lubricants. I've found many other uses for it as a lubricant, as I had quite a bit left over after building my shop.

Again, thank you............
