Windshield Glass not fitting

I received a pair of windshield glass for my 1939 Tudor Deluxe and they seem to be to tall to fit in the frame. They measure 14" tall but the frame seems to be about 13.5" tall. They fit fine length wise.

Take it up with who ever you bought them from.

I have sent them an email, but looking at another site, it states their glass is also 14" high. Does anybody here know if that is correct?

Who cut the glass? How tall was the old glass?

I went with Sanders but have not tried to put it all together yet.

I'll take my new windshield out of the box and measure it (it is for 1937 Fordor).

Take all to a good glass shop…. They can grind it down tell it fits.

I had this same thing happen w high dollar correct dated glass I got mail order.
It was for a 40 and was ¼ oversize….better to big than to small I guess.

My Sanders 1937 Fordor windshield glass is 12.75 inches tall at the middle partition and about 13.0 inches at its highest point. I just took a real 1937 Ford windshield back to the barn so I can't readily measure it.

The 1937 Ford and 1939 Ford use the same windshield seal (78-701290), so I would assume that the windshield glass would be the same size.

Here is a photo of my Sanders Reproduction Windshield for 1937 Ford.

Sounds like you got open car glass 78-711250 instead of closed car glass 78-701250. See drawings below for comparison. These drawings are from Ford Glass List form 3680 (1944)

Hope this helps.

My glass measures 14" at the center, thanks Tony.
I'll take them and frame to a glass shop
and have them correct it, thanks 296V8.
It looks like they cut it for an open car Don, even big for that.
Thanks guys.

Before cutting the glass I would complain to the high priced folks who cut it and tell them they sent you the wrong glass. They may offer to pay return shipping and ship you the correct glass, or they may offer to pay you to have your local shop cut it to the correct size. I would not let them get away with it. My 2¢.

Hey, Old Bill. The name is LAWSON. I don't know how people get that name wrong so often. Call me anything, just don't call me late for supper. lol

Let's see some photos of your 1939 Ford.

A friend of mine past away this year and we were able to get his Deluxe at auction a few months ago. This Ford means a lot to us and we plan on getting it
restored and drive the heck out of it. Norm Miller is the friend I am speaking about. He owned a parts business in Davenport Iowa. They had to have three separate auctions to sell all of his antique car parts. He will be missed.

I am impressed with the originallty of your 39 Ford! The generator pulley is correct for a 39 Deluxe, and the voltage regulator is original for that car also. Most 39s today have had those items replaced long ago, usually with later style parts. I know that your Ford is yours to do as you wish, but if I owned a 39 in that close to original condition, I would keep it as close to original as you can. Of course overhaul the brake system and other driveability items as needed. Good luck, and enjoy driving your 39 Ford! Tom

One more thing, the radiator is from a 41 or later Ford. Not being critical, but just to let you know. Best regards, Tom.

Thanks Tom. It will be kept original. I thought the rad was not correct. Here is the reply from Macsauto about the windshield, not looking promising.

I was wondering if you have the measurements of the glass that is supposed to be in the vehicle."

Just an update to the windshield. I sent Macsauto a tracing of the windshield opening and said to add 3/8". They are sending the drawing to their vendor and they will ship me new glass. Very happy with the customer service. ( Thanks Jan for that suggestion)
