Windshield fdrame.

I am trying to remove a broken glass panel from my 1939 PU windshield frame. I have removed the screws that hold the upper and lower halves togethr and have soaked the joint with a 50-50 mixture of ATF and Acetone, applied heat, cut the seal between the frame and the glass with a utility knife and placed a bumper jack between the upper and lower halves to force them apart. The glass is free of the frame, but the joint has not begun to open. Anyone have any hints on breaking the two halves apart without destroying the frame? TIA

I had a freind ( and he's a BIG GUY ) hold one half of the frame,
and I tapped on a piece of wood butted against the other side.
I kept the joint lubed with PB Blaster, and it finally came apart.

It sounds weird but try this: wash the joint in solvent and then soap and water to remove and oily stuff you've tried, soak the joint in Limeaway or CLR for 24 hours. Then try taping it apart

BILL; Heat and soak, heat and soak again.....and then more heat and quick, cold dump. Heat and soak some more, then the shock again heat and cold dump. It will come apart " someday "....OLD....BILL

I removed the screws holding the frame together using a propane torch to heat them to beeak loose any corrosion and paint holding them. I broke out the glass and then I then used the propane torch to heat the joint between the two halves of the frame. While it was still hot I gently hammered the frame apart using a rubber hammer. The propane torch does not get as hot as a cutting torch and the frames came apart without too much trouble.

I have heated and quenched, heated and quenched and tapped the joint with a hammer while putting a bumper jack between the two halves to force them apart. So far I have moved it 1/2 the thickness of a # 10 machine screw. Well at least I have made SOME progress. I will try again after a relaxing beer.

Re: Windshield frame.

Bill.. After heating the frame, as it cools, try shooting a blast of WD40 on all sides, letting it cool then try and force it back together and give it another blast of WD 40 they try and force it apart again, this moving it back and forth it will eventually come apart, when you get it apart and clean it up; put some never sieze on the parts and screws before you put it back together..

Well, I heated, quenched, jacked, and tapped at least 6 times on each side and finally saw a little progress. After I saw a little movement I jacked a little harder and it broke loose on both sides. I did loose one of the stainless caps that covers the joint on the outside though. Did I see them advertised in Mac's catalog? Thanks for all the suggestions.
