Windshield Angle

with or without gasoline fumes from the filler cap?
It’s not that hard to experiment— the first notch is designed for maximum flow from under the dash rail.

The notch or notches in the swing arms should be the ideal setting. However, you can experiment to find the opening to your liking. Start with the windshield open so it extends to the aft side of the gas cap. Then go 1/2 inch closed at a time until you find the sweet spot.

A Model A is not an aerodymic complexity. In fact, the windshield represents pretty much a right angle obstruction to airflow. Maximum airflow through the cabin is obtained with the windshield wide open with a rear window (if available) also open to allow flow. Having said that, that’s also the noisiest in the cabin. Take your pick what you need.

Also keep in mind that with outside air above about 85 F you might be actually gaining heat load with more flow. It’s a balance between evaporative loss and conductive gain.

If I want more flow I generally open to the notches, open the rear quarter windows a bit (ah, the joys of having a Town Sedan!), and call it good. Not terribly scientific, I know.

Good point on high flow of hot air being worse than less flow. If I was younger and lived much further south, I'd look at adding A/C.

A great uncle of mine was always saying, let's roll up the windows and pretend we have A/C ! I have found with my Tudor that opening the windshield just to the gas cap gives the most air flowing down behind the dash rail cooling legs and feet ! Quarter windows down about 3 inches along with door windows down 3 inches . This is at highway speeds ! Around town poking at 30 mph or less open everything up ! This is only when it’s hot outside ! LOL

I've been considering going with the multi-notch windshield props. Mine wont stay wide open and creeps back until it drops into the notch. I don't really want to take pliers to the knobs...

I have 3D-printed little tabs to keep the window wide open, if you are interest and have access to a printer, i can send you the file…
