Windsheild frame

How is the windsheild frame removed from the car? I want to repaint the frame and thought it would be easier than trying to do it on the car. I have looked at it and I really don't have a clue.

There is a hinge on the top of the frame. It is held on by screws.

You need to disconnect the swing arms (unscrew the hold downs and remove the arms.)

I found that having TWO helpers is great!

Swing the windshield forward to clear the gas cap.

Look up and you should see 8 screws.

Loosen these (DO NOT REMOVE). I found that this is necessary since the windshield will tend to DROP pretty quickly.

Have your helpers swing the windshield open/closed a few times and the hinge will release from the seal.

Remove the screws (I leave the outer screws for last) and the entire frame will come out.

I hope this helps.

On my S/W car, the lack of a visor meant that I could open the windshield a few inches and slide it sideways out of the hinge, without having to mess with the screws.

Maybe it is less hassle to remove the visor than to remove the hinge from the header?
