window wiskers

getting ready to put the windows in my 46 coupe, and need to put the window wiskers in. do i have to use the screws and staples provided or can i use 3m yellow super weatherstrip adhesive instead. i don't want to scratch the glass if there is a better way. thanks

We use small filister head sheet metal screws tightened so the heads are embedded in the strip. I have yet to scratch the glass.

All I can say is, if you use the screws, be SURE the heads are embedded well below the surface of the whiskers. Don't ask me how I know this. :(

I just did my 46 merc and used 3M black weatherstrip cement,i used small plastic clamps to hold in place until dry, very strong bond, the hardest part was removing the factory staples

I have used the screws and a small pop rivet both work , like the screws best as the others say make sure they are in ! Laurie

Macs used to sell black screws. On tri 5 Chevys I use #4 Phillips head screws. They are small and embed deep into the feather strip. Not scratched a glass yet with these.
