Window regulator

Looking for some help. While driving my A the driver's window rolls itself down as I go along. I roll it back up and it rolls itself down. Any idea on how to adjust it so this doesn't happen?
Thanks
Scott

were is the hand pointing and at what angle. you need to put the handle so if it is trying to move down the window will crank the window up.

you could be missing the big spring but you would know that, without the big spring your window will be real hard to roll up.there is a spring brake inside the regulator, they are there to not let the window roll up or down without turning the handle, I suspect the spring is bad inside.

I have the complete opposite problem, my passenger window rolls itself up as I drive. Doesn't bother me much, since I'm always the one driving. :-)

Same thing, with me. I can understand how a window rolls down on it's own, gravity. But up? Need some help on that.

In the square shaft the handle attaches to is attached to a spring inside the metal cover. The spring attaches to the gear. The square shaft twists the spring onto itself shrinking its diameter allowing you to turn the handle. When the window gears try to turn the spring it unwinds and locks against the metal handle cover.

When this spring stuff is broken it will allow the window to move on its own. So that needs to come apart and be rebuilt. Get a passenger window reg and steal parts from that to fix it.

When a window wants to go up that is because the big counter balance springs are good and the handle does not lock the window.

When the window goes down the counter balance springs are broken.

In any event, the regulators are not hard to fix. You can even take all the gears off by grinding the swage and then put them back together with a tack weld. The handle cover can be put back together with plan old screws. All easy common sense stuff. I do not know why they went through the trouble of whole repro regulators, there seem to be plenty of the common model parts.
