window channel felts

How good are the premade window felts for a 57 wagon? Do I have to bend them or do they come prebent and ready to install? I may or may not rebuild my originals as it depends on how much time it takes.

Thanks,

Mike

Those from Carpenter come straight. The clips to snap them in place on the top of the door are in the correct location. Making the bend can be tricky. I had an old door glass from my Ranchero to use as a pattern. I took the old felt/molding placed it on the window which was clamped in my vice by the bottom rail. Marked the location of the clips on masking tape. Placed the new part, lining up the clips to the marks and started the bending process. It is a slow process, the stainless will slide in the molding as you push down on it to make the bend. You need to twist it side to side as you push down. You can feel the stainless move, if it does not move the piece will kink. Again, slow and steady with a bunch of wiggling and twisting.

Here they are.......

They come in 6' lengths. Do like FordBlueBlood said^^^
Bend them around the window, slowly!
They do tend to kink on tight corners. I found the mounting clips to be useless. Instead, I ordered these from Amazon......

Scuffed 'em, painted 'em black, drilled tiny holes and installed. Can't see 'em and they're never coming loose.

That looks like my attempt at bending these darn things. Ended up getting the prebent version.

be sure that the stainless isn't crimped onto the felt at the ends .. it has to slide independantly .. I screwed up a couple before i figured that out

56sedandelivery, where did you get the prebent versions? I will have to install new ones until I can rebuild the originals.

Been so long I do not remember. I will look next couple days to see if anything is on them to point to a vendor. Have Dr. appoint next couple days.

on my '60 fairlane, after I got the channels bent, I secured them in place with 3M emblem tape. placed a strip on the upper flat and pushed them in place. been in for 5 yrs.

What I found out on mine: if the upper strip is too long, the rubber in front of the wind wing won’t set right.
Had to trim off about a quarter of an inch.
