wind wings

I would like to fit wind wings on my '31 CC pickup but not sure how to proceed. The upper door edge is quite narrow, (3/4") and the back comes pretty close to the body. Is the wind wing bracket held on with screws and nuts and if so, will there be clearance once the door is shut? Another question is the glass. The catalogs don't list pickups so how hard is it to make patterns to carry to a glass shop?

Are there more than one style of brackets available for closed cars? Thanks

You may want to look at the A&L reproduction of the Fulton Wind WIng bracket. It installs by clamping onto the window frame and not screwed onto the door itself. There are two clamps one for the top and one for the bottom of the window opening.

My 28 Phaeton never had windwings and I'll never install them. I rode in a 31 Phaeton with windwings and really find no difference in the air. I don't know if they help the backseat passengers, but I couldn't see that they helped me in the front seat. Plus they are somewhat in the way when getting in and out, though that won't be a problem when the are mounted on your door. It just seems to me they are more for looks than function.

I agree with Tom that they are in the way, but I find they do deflect the air from my face when driving, so I use them. As an added benefit I think they do add to the appearance of the vehicle.
