wind wings

i'm working on a 31 delux roadster, it is to be a driver, no show car. i want to go to a glass business and have the wind wings cut from laminated safety glass.
the catalogs list several different glass windwings but give no dementions, can someone who has one of these roadsters please measure the height and width
for me.
thanks larry harding

They are roughly a 12.750" x 8.125" trapezoidal shape that are radiused in the corners.

I will also tell you that unless you have the original style clamps and the ribbed rubber pieces (-which are both out of production!), then you are wasting your time unless your vehicle is to be used as a static display only. The Vintique Bracket sets are junk, ...and also out of production.

the roadster i'm working on has the original brackets, i supposed the original (plate) glass got lost or broken over time. i thought the wind wing glass would be shorter on the deluxe, a friend bought a set of the etched glass for his standard roadster and let me borrow one of his old glasses it is 13' high and 8 1/8" wide. i measured the glass on another friends deluxe roadster it measures about 13 3/4" high and 8 3/8" wide. i suppose any of the glasses could have broken and been replaced. just want to be right on size before i go to the glass shop. i've seen some videos about keeping the glass from falling out, must have been a problem.
another question...did all the deluxe roadsters have two fender mounted tires?

The Deluxe came out around August of 30,and had one drivers side mounted spare. They did not come with both side spares. Then in 31,the Deluxe put the spare on the rear, like the Standard Roadster. To be correct your 31 should have a rear mounted spare.Dual fender mounted spares was added bling, almost all the old roadster restorations had them sdded.

Use tempered glass. The laminated doesn't fair well when the lamination is exposed to the weather. It tends to separate and bubble. along the edges.

M '29 has safety glass and Vintique clamps. I did use a drop of super glue to hold rubber in clamp and a nother drop to hold rubber to glass. That was in 2013 and I've never had a problem in 13,000 miles of drivng. Bill

i guess i may have to order from one of the dealers, assuming the repops are tempered. i thought all the original glass windshield etc was plate untill up in the 30's. the one my friend loaned me looks like 1/4" plate, but may be tempered. thanks for all the help!

I had some cut from laminated in the early 80's,and another set cut in 2004.Both still look fine.I used pieces of butyl windshield ribbon on both of them.I just waited until I had to do some glass, and put them together with the leftovers after doing the glass work. Now I just use the butyl in the caulking gun.I just cut the excess away with a razor after. Not the way to go if you need originality, but after they are trimmed they just look like rubber gaskets squeezed in there.

Hello, I think the original wind wings were safety glass,as the judging book shows where the markings were at . The 1930 Deluxe did have the rumble seat , luggage rack, and driver side mounted spare, also about 14 different color options. In 1931 side mounted spares ,single or dual was extra cost ,along with the luggage rack, and color schemes dropped to four .

How long has it been since you reinstalled them that way? I have never know them to last.

Ohh, what brand of Pepper did you use, ...and who is Farrah Fawcett??

You tube links are useless. Based on this I can only imagine what kind of pepper Farrah used to install her wind wings.

Wow, you must be a young chicken to not know of her. She was an american actress who would be welcome to leave her shoes under my bed - any time.

Ohh, I knew exactly who she was. She actually grew up on the opposite side of Houston from where I did. It was more of a jab at Paul mentioning that to his young viewers about a poster of some hottie who would have been the age of their Grandma. :D

Regret to inform you that the demographics of people who watch Model A YouTube videos are identical to the demographics of the hobby overall.

That jab was well received, my friend! Hate to have to be the one to inform you of this- The viewer demographics of my stuff on YouTube lands squarely in the middle of the demographic that would check "Yes" to "Did you have or did a friend of yours have *that* poster of Farrah Fawcett?"

Had the pleasure of meeting that hottie a long time ago. Zero ego, just super nice.
