Wide Whites

Right now I have bias wide whites on my '51 Victoria, wheels and tires are 6.70/15. Coker bias looking radials in this size only have a 2 3/4 inch w/w. I'd like something at least 3 inches wide and that means going to 205/75 R15 or 235/75 R15. Has anyone done this on their shoebox, using the stock 6.70/15 rims? Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

205/75 R15 is the widest you can go on the rear for a Shoebox with stock wheels. The reason is fender panel clearance. I have that size on my 50 Coupe.

I've seen tires as large as 215x75X 15 on the back of a shoebox. Just make sure your rims are at least 5" wide

If you check the size comparison chart on Cokers' website, I think the 205/75r15 is the one that matches 6.70-15. Do you think you can tell the difference between 2 3/4" and 3" from more than ten feet away? I dont think I could. But then again, Im not a WWW guy.... Mark

I have Coker American Classics on my '50 Sedan. They are 205/75R15 with a 2 1/2" whitewall. They run smooth and look great. Pat

Pat,
Thanks for posting the pic of your car. I can't decide whether to go with the Cokers like yours or Diamond Back which I can get with a 3" w/w. It seems the debate over Cokers vs Diamond Back is never ending.

Bob, I know what you mean!

I have seen wide whites on some of the shoebox Fords that look too wide for my liking. But, you know what they say....Different strokes for..... Anyway, good luck!

At 30k I have plenty of tread left but whitewalls don't clean up as nice. I'm tempted to replace with blackwalls like 90% of the shoeboxes were equipped with when new.

I think the www's on Pat's car are perfect for a '49 - '51 . BTW - nice car Pat ![/QUOTE

Thanks F.F.!

Probably, If I didn't have the fender skirts and lowered about an inch, the blackwalls would look good also. These American Classic tires have about 10K miles on them and still look like new. I have only cleaned with whitewall cleaner about 1 or 2 times in 5 years. They are staying very white...so far.

Here's a 3 1/4" white wall on my 56 Ford.
The blue color is the protection, that I haven't cleaned off
These are made on the west coast the same as Diamond Back's.
That is, they're vulcanized on

Where can I get a set of these? I am on the left coast.

Here's a BF Goodrich Silvertown 7:60x15 tubeless 15 inch tire from Coker with a 3 1/4 in. white wall. Rim is 15 x6 with 4 inch back space. Remember, 15x6 is the measurement from bead lock to bead lock on the rim. The actual measurement of the rim from outside edge to edge is 7 inches. So, when someone says they are using a 15x5 rim the actual width of the rim is 6 in. I know you didn't ask for opinions but a 3 in. white wall looks too wide on a shoebox. Big cars like 49-51 Mercs and Lincolns could get away with using them.
