wide 5 adapters

Good Morning (California)
Does anyone know if using an adapter for wide five to 5.5 will allow a 15" wheel fit on the brake drum for the wide five ?

I've never seen any. If they did make them, they would probably space the wheels out so far as to look weird. You best bet is probably later model ('40-'48) drums, which are readily available.

I temporarily mounted 49/50 mercury 15" wheels w/tires on my 35 coupe just to see if they would fit over the drums and how they would look on the car. They did fit well over the stock 35 drums. If I decided to use these 15" wheels on the road, the wire wheel support projections would need to be ground off or as Tubman said, you could use '40 - '48 style drums.

Hi all; I have removed the rivited centers from the wide fives and wheel fabricators can assemble them with 15" rims. This was an old circle track trick, and new circle track wheels are available today, but they are set up for larger lug bolts, same 10 3/4" pattern though. Newc

Good morning - Thanks for responding guys. I love the wide five look, I just want a wider rim and 15" rims for the car. I haven't figured how much clearance there is back there. Seem's like there is always something:rolleyes:

"Newc" is correct; you can either make or buy 15" wide fives in just about any width and offset you desire. My vintage modified in the attached pictures has 15" wide fives all around. The rears are special racing units, but the fronts are 15X5's from a company called "Bassett", I believe. I have also made my own wheels for this car using centers and shells from Speedway Motors. It's pretty easy if you have a welder and a dial indicator. I'm sorry that I didn't fully understand your initial question.

(Sorry about the engine, fellas!)
