Why Do Ignition Coils Fail?

No we don't need it. The old system works just fine. But I look upon this as a hobby. If a newer method can be developed than why not. I get a lot of enjoyment from the technical aspects of the old Ford V8 and am constantly looking for ways to improve it. I often wonder what it would do with a "modern" ignition system.

I will install a new ignition in my 49 this fall.
