Why cant I find an A???

I didn't know you were looking, but $7,000 could have bought you a nice driver a few times in the past year where I live, Mpls, MN. I wouldn't limit my search to just local. When you spend that much money for a car I feel it's worth it to travel at least a couple states away. Or, for gas money I could have delivered it from this area to your place.

A friend of mine found a "driver" pickup in San Francisco. Went down and looked at it and drove it home -- to Alaska! Sounds like one of the half dozen that Jason found should do just as well.

I have been looking for a Model A for quite sometime now. I had a couple of possibility's but nothing ever paned out ( The sellers were truthful) I even looked at a 27 T but was talked out of it. I search craigslist, ebay, autotrader and the papers daily and havent found anything. I have looked here on the MAFCA, MARC and Ahooga sites as well. Is there any other publications I should look at? Anyone got a Model A in southeast MI they are trying to sell?

I usually ignore requests like this after being embarrased by people looking for a $100.00 sleeper. Since you are in my area (Illinois) I'll try to help.
28 Tudor in same family since new old paperwork comes with. Restored 70's and lightly used since. Ready to drive home. Niagara blue. Mice chewed on professional upholstery. $7,000.00. Call owner, (Bill) 309 352 2315. I know of other A's for sale in the area. Call me days from 10 AM til 3:30 PM Rainmaker Ron

I am looking to stay inside of Michigan. The car dosent have to be listed at 7000.00. people still haggle and negotiate price still right?

So exactly how many miles are you willing to drive. It seems like the above post have given you some decent options. I had to drive to South Carolina from east Alabama for mine.

We all know of somebody that finds a great deal, there are a lot of deals on a lot of cars, not so much on the A's.A lot of A people have them for the reason they are cheap to own and fix compared to others. Most A people are also the kinds of people that don't get themselves into financial pickles.A lot of A's that I know of for sale have a price on them, but one price only. That is it.Take it or leave it.With the internet and Craigslist people have forgotten how to haggle decently. If you have an asking price of $10,000 some will spend an hour or two looking at your car and offer $2000.After nearly 40 years of selling stuff now everything I advertise is priced firm.I make it clear in my ads that you are not to even think of making an offer. If you look and don't want it,fine.Too much, not what you want, that's OK.I sold a 29 coupe, barn car,not since 1974,for $8800.A street rodder bought it,the A guys were topping out at $3500.

It seems like the reason you can't find an A is because someone hasn't parked one in your driveway and handed you the keys.

that seems to be the truth !

X2,i have bought a model a coupe off ebay and craigslist before. The best advice is to ride back roads and look, ask around if anybody knows someone with old cars, may not be what you want but then you can ask them if they know anybody.

If you're waiting for a parade of $7,000 Model A's that are for sale to go up and down your road , good luck. You've got to beat the bushes to find what you're looking for. Remember thay you aren't the only one looking for these bargains. All those great deals you heard about didn't just happen. They jumped on the deal when the time was right.

JpM you are right they (7,000 to 9,000 running and good bodied cars) are out there but having one pop up around you is slim chanced. You must be willing to travel a little bit. Even if you pick it up and drive it home. Make a nice two or three day trip out of it if need be. It would give you a good amount of time to learn how to drive the thing if you dont have experiance with them too. These cars are becoming very rare and at that price even more rare.

I would repeat...HERSHEY.
The good buys seem to be older, slightly worn restorations and cars done with lots of repro trim that needs to be tossed. The sheer numbers of cars and the pressure of annoying nitpickers (Hey!! Your cotter pins are incorrect for April of 1930!) I think drive prices down in relation to settings in which there is a single Model A for sale.
There is a LOT to reccomend a quick trip out of town.

Local car to your area $7000.00 solid, good running. Those are hens teeth, very rare and takes a long time to find you are gouing to have to look in the local paper for such a thing. Fordbarn, Hemmings and the like will have crap cars going for more than that.

Then I'll just give up on the A search. I have seen the deals before I was interested in them. From what I was told by club members 7-9 grand can get you a pretty decent A guess they were lying.

Hershey is but two months away.
The Model A Fairy is not going to park one in your driveway.
You are looking for something INEXPENSIVE, AND LOCAL, AND ROADWORTHY.
MAYBE two of those three, but not all three.
Not saying it CAN't happen, but read the MANY consistently disagreeing replies and consider readjusting your priorities.
Maybe join a couple of clubs and wait for a "Fire Sale" from someone within getting out of the hobby.

Doesn't sound like you really wanted one all that bad to me. Everything takes effort. Curious how old you are because young people are impatient and think things should come easy.
