Why am I getting a spark here ???

While puttering on Ol Walter (to be a 31 Huckster) I was trying to get him started, I was just reaching over and pushing the starter rod.I thought the spark linkage felt warm. I then noticed I was getting a spark where the linkage attached to the spark lever end. What would cause me to get a spark there ?
If it's not one thing it's another.

Yep, 100% right...the poor, lost electrons were desperately seeking a way back home because proper route was blocked (dirt or thick new paint) or gone (perhaps no splash pans).

James,

The spark control rod may be to close or even touching # 3 spark plug wire. Rods that are too long and bent to accommodate can cause this.
Following an engine swap last week I had one that needed adjustment because it was grounding out.

You may have a crack in the upper composit portion of the distributor. They fill with moisture and carbon deposits and offer a path for the high voltage from the secondary of the coil to find a way to ground. I have seen badly cracked distributor tops offer a dazzling display with the car running in darkness.

The distributor needs a good ground.. Loosening and retightening the retainer screw may help.. Check to that the wires in the distributor are good and that the points are clean and well grounded,, same with the condenser..

James is not talking about ignition spark!
Quick grounding test: clip test light to gearshift, put pointy end to middle of + positive post, looong crank, light on=Bad grounding, light off= Good grounding. If bad grounding, just add a short double flat end cable from battery post clamp nut to a transmission cover bolt. Bill W.
