Why is the clearance cut into the head called a "Flycut"? It looks more like a "spotface" or "counterbore" to me. When I worked in the machine shops, we made and used flycutters that held tool bits. I dug my old one out a few weeks ago to machine the working surface on my anvil. a flycutter will give you a very flat surface, which is very pretty to look at.
But if you were to plunge it into the head, it would only cut at the tip, marking a large ring and leaving the center untouched. If someone had brought me a head and said "I want the flycut made deeper" I wouldn't have known what he was talking about.
