Who's had their A the longest

I bought my 1930 coupe in October 1961 for $125 - my very first car in high school - I still own it today.

Jon in Ohio

Got this old 1929 ccpu in about 1951 from my cousin George. Ruined it in high school in the 50's, keep the "Junk" all these years and made it into my Huckster in 2010.

I got our '29 touring car in 1965 when I was still in high school, the mail truck in 1967 (I think), and our '28 roadster in 1977 while I was in law school - hardly the longest among other folks here, but certainly before I ever remotely thought about children or grandchildren. They are all part of the"family" now, and my children are each beginning to stake their claims for when ....

I bought my 30 A Coupe sometime in 1957 and still have it today. Last tag I bought for it was in 1958 (Permanent Antique tag) I would have to go dig out the title to find out the month. If I remember right I also paid $175 for mine off a used car lot. It had new paint and interior. Interior was not original in anyway but was new. Most of the tires that were on the car at the time I bought it are still on it and holding air. And no I don't drive it these days. Planing a full restoration when I finish my 46 Ford coupe. I wished I had started on my Model A first.

Bought my 29 coupe in 1959 for $175 and it had just had the engine rebuilt. In 1961 a buddy and I drove it from Los Angeles to Grand Rapids, Mich for our first year of college, and then back again the next Summer. Has not had that many miles put on it since then.

Probably pre ordered his in the T era!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Tiny, you & John Duden think you're a pair of young whippersnappers:D I might be oooold, but not THAT old, GEEZ!
Chief tole me lots of "T" stuff, he HATED "T"s but LOVED Model A's from the start.
I've had Vermin since 2010 & He was MAFCA's Car Of The Day, once, & he wasn't even DRIVING!! (Go figure??) Minerva wuz once MAFCA's Car Of The Day, but she was driving!
My first "A" was a '28 CCPU, in 1949, when I was 14! ( NO, you CLOWNS don't have enough fingers, between you to count from there to figure out how oooold I am:D)
Sachel Paige was once asked his age, he replied, "If you didn't know when you were born, how old would YOU be"??
I'm ooold enough to KNOW better, but I don't DO better!! (Whatever that means:confused:??)
Chief always said, "We're ALL CHILDREN, in OOOLD skins"!! (I know what that means:D!!) Chief had many other "WISDOM" sayings, that I can't type here! ("NO, Dog:cool:, cain't do them or I'd be in DEEP HOT WATER") Bill W.

There was a guy from the Philadelphia suburbs(maybe Sellersville?) named Frank Hartmeier. He bought a 29 roadster new at age 17 and drove it till he died at 95. The car was donated to the AACA museum where it remains today. Stop and see it at the museum during Hershey week.

Purdy Swoft and I must be the same age. I got my 1929 CCPU when I was 13 in 1960. I had to save all year to pay the $75.00 for the purchase price. It ran, but that is about all I can say about it.

I drove it for a few years then family and finances got in the way of doing much in the way of restoration. I retired in 2000 and took it with me to Mexico where I restored it. It is a real rarity here and the hit of parades.

Interesting thread, it seems a lot of us acquired our first at a ripe young age. Mine was in '81 at age 13. I don't think we have to worry, as the decades pass we do still see many young people getting their first one at about the same age.

I was born in late november 1946. My september 29 is a strip down, lots of parts were missing and it had been vandalized. A freind towed it home for me on the back roads with her 49 oldsmobile. I only paid eight dollars for it . Here is a pic taken in 07 of the car and me after I overhauled and painted it. It still has the same engine and running gear that it had when I first got it. I suppose I could put a body on it but I prefer to keep it close to the way it was when I drove it as a teenager.

My dad bought my cabriolet brand new in October 1929, it has been my car since '58 or '59. ...still have frame matching engine, but have not tried to rebuild it yet.

Sadly Ive only had mine for a few years but one of my customers has had his A since 1953 and another has had his 32 B roadster since 1933 when his mother bought it in my shop.

My dad purchased my 30 tudor in the 50's and we restored it together in the 80's. We bought a 31 coupe together in '85 and restored it together. I still have both. Since I was only born in '63, many of you have me beat by a long ways.

My grandfather bought my 30 Roadster for his boss when he was caretaker to a rich family. Put it up on blocks after they used it one summer for 1 month. then bought it from them in 1944 for my dad to use. Still in the family and looks like a million bucks! (PS, worried about my three sons who all want it).

The only fair thing to do is buy 2 more, so you can pass on one to each son.:D

I got my first model A in the spring of 1960. I've still got it. Here is a pic of the car and me taken in 62, I turned 16 november of that year. I was only 13 when I first got it.

.. Here are your photos with some added contrast; if you want to email me better pixel photos i can do better job.
regards; Ric

Thanks Ric , I think that those pictures were taken on valentines day in 62. We had a house fire in 1975, the day after christmas. The only things saved were a few pictures that was in the corner of the house that wasn't completely destroyed. The pictures were in bad shape but I kept them.
