Who woulda thunk it?

On our way to the doctor today the term "eating table" popped up, and the wife cleared it all up for me.

Back in the days of yore, kitchens didn't have built in cabinets and counters, etc., they just had tables and chairs. There were tables on which to prepare the food, called work tables, and a table to eat on, hence, the eating table. Makes perfect sense.

What in the world would we simply minded menfolk do without the ladies to make sense of it all?
