Who designed the '49 Ford

"The-rodster" posted an excellent history on the design of the '49 Ford.

I read bits and pieces of the design effort before, but not as complete as this seems to be. A must read.

Ya' someone told me that the design started back in the 20's

That is an amazing true story. If you would like to read an interview with designer Bob Gregorie (1949 mercury designer) before he died go here:

I have loved 50 Fords since my first grade teacher, Mrs. Botkin, bought a new 50 Crestliner in bronze and brown. Every day on my way to and from the bus, I stopped to look at it. In 1954 my dad bought a nice 50 Deluxe 2dr and in 1960 my first car was a 50 Custom Deluxe 4dr. I had this pea green car painted ruby maroon at Earl Scheib for $29.95 and several years later rebuilt the engine myself. I have read everything I could about 49-51 Fords for over 50 years. Many years ago Michael Lamm started Special Interest Autos which became Hemmings Classic Car. He did a great piece on the designers of the 49 Ford. His conclusions were pretty much the same as the latest article. A good read.
