White Post Restorations - Billy Thompson Dies at 72

Sorry to read this, his shop turned out a lot of restorations and the sleeved wheel and master cylinders gave many cars safe brake systems. Prayers going out to his family and friends.

I stopped by White Post Restoration many years ago while on vacation. They were doing a lot of business with sleeving wheel cylinders at the time. I did not know Mr. Thompson, but he took the time to show my wife and myself around the place. I remember him as a real gentleman, full of energy and enthusiasm. The old car hobby has lost another great. I hope there is someone to carry on for him. Thanks for posting this, it is sad news but I am glad to be aware of it. :(

Last I heard, his son and daughter were working with him.

Billy was a gracious competitor these last 18 years. To the best of my knowledge, he never said a bad word about me or my business. Nor I about his.

Shortly after I started sleeving brake cylinders, Billy spent quite a bit of time on the phone with me, let me talk to his head machinist, and FAXed me helpful information.

Indeed, a major loss for the old car hobby.

I have trouble handling this. 72 is too young with the level of medical knowledge out there.
Billy's White Post, VA is about about 5 miles from my house. I have driven by there many times since about 1976. His work was very good. He helped us occasional when we needed blasting media. He similed and handed it to us and would not take money. "just return it when you can". And we would bring back more.

He will be missed by folks from around the world. Such a lost.

Very gracious gentleman. I met him about 12 years ago at the Kruse/Auburn auction. One of my car pals and our wifes were going thru the outside area where Billy had a display.I introduced us to him and he treated us like family. Talked about his shop and shared the last four Pepsi he had in his cooler.
Our prayers are with his family.

I used to live close to White Post and would stop and see him and the guys twice a year. I always made an effort to see him at Hershey and get my apple from his table. Several of my cars and trucks have his master cylinder and wheel cylinders on them. He will be missed.
