Which way does this go?

I bought this Drake trunk gasket for my '37 Slantback, but not sure which way is up. This may not be like the original, I've never seen an original, but I assume this would work. Which way should it go? Thanks, Bill

Don't assume anything fits right out of the box! Your rubber gasket may be similar, and they expect you to trim it to fit, or otherwise not bother to return it. Consider yourself lucky to have found it in stock at Drakes anyway.

From your picture, I'd assume the knife edge goes up, facing out to seal against the outer trunk lid, the slot to locate it on the bottom. That said, it looks like hard rubber, perhaps not squishy enough to work properly, let alone whether it looks like an original seal.

You might try spots of glue here and there to hold it in place while you try it, easier to deal with if you have to take it off.

I have a '37 coupe and the trunk seal goes on the body, not the trunk lid. I think it goes in like you are holding it, the right side goes toward the trunk opening and the left side toward the body, but I don't know what the purpose of the notch on the bottom would be for, drainage?

I am hoping someone with direct experience with this seal shape chimes in.
